Device Limitations for Wallet Unit Attestation
Some wallet unit attestation options rely on hardware-based security features that are not available on all devices.
What this means
When configuring a credential schema with wallet unit attestation, certain attestation types depend on dedicated security hardware built into the device — for example, components that store and process cryptographic keys in an isolated environment. Devices that do not include this hardware cannot support those attestation options.
Wallet holders using unsupported devices may be unable to request or receive credentials that require hardware-backed attestation.
What to consider
Requiring an attestation during issuance always risks device incompatibility with some holders. When choosing an attestation option for your credential schema, consider the devices your intended wallet holders are likely to use. If broad device compatibility is a priority, do not choose WUA, or choose an attestation option that does not depend on hardware-specific features.
If hardware-backed attestation is required for your use case, communicate this requirement clearly to wallet holders so they know which devices are supported before attempting to obtain a credential.
